Welcome to ThinkChinese. Here you can get to know our team!
Owner of ThinkChinese
Briony started ThinkChinese in 2015. The mission of the business is to connect Jersey with China through language, culture and business.
In 2016, under the permission of Hanban UK, the Chinese proficiency exam board, Briony introduced the HSK and YCT exams to Jersey and set up Jersey’s first official test centre at JCG. This is the start of Chinese proficiency exams in Jersey, and to date over 200 students taught by ThinkChinese have sat exams at different levels, and obtained great results.
Briony is also a trained and experienced translator and interpreter. She translated for Jersey and Guernsey Education Department during Shanghai Huangpu Education Bureau’s visit in 2016, CBRC (China Banking Regulatory Commission)’s visit to JFSC in 2017, and Bayi’s visit to Haulieu for three years since 2015. Briony also specialises in translating legal and trust documents. Her corporate clients include Sanne Group, Vistra, Standard Bank and Baker & Partners.
In 2020 Briony joined Bedell Cristin IPC Jersey team to develop Asian market. Her skills and insights into the Chinese business world has quickly gained her recognition. She speaks and contributes to webinars, roundtables and knowledge pieces, and is also deeply involved in matters concerning Asian clients.
Briony’s strong education background underpins her career development. She holds an MA Degree in Education from University of Durham, a Post-Graduate Diploma in Translating and Interpreting from Newcastle University and a STEP Certificate in International Trusts Management (through self-study). Briony is also currently studying toward an ACCA qualification.
Tutor and Immersion Programme Leader
Di joined the team in 2019 after she graduated from Nottingham University with a MA Degree in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages (TCSOL). Prior to joining ThinkChinese, Di worked in a prestigious bilingual school in Beijing for 6 years. At ThinkChinese, Di teaches students of all ages and levels. She builds rapport with her students through her fun and engaging style. Di is also the creator and leader of the Immersion Programme. The IP is the first of its kind in Jersey which is offered to Children before they reach 6 years old, the prime age of foreign language acquisition. It combines Chinese with math, music and art to create an immersive learning experience.
Business Development and Project Manager
Sunny recently joined our team as BD and project manager. Prior to working with ThinkChinese, Sunny has worked in Aimeirui, one of the largest English language teaching organizations in northeast China for 15 years. As the head of the BD team, her experience also spans teaching, teacher training, recruitment, course development and marketing. Sunny holds a BA degree in Education from Northeast Normal University, which is one of the most renowned universities in China. Sunny has also obtained Level 1 Second Grade in Standard Mandarin Test, and Certificate for Teaching Chinese to Non-native Speakers.
Office and Marketing Assistant
Since joining the team in October 2020, Eleyshir has been assisting with the creation and execution of various campaigns, lessons and promotions on our social media. Her creative background from her time studying a diploma in Art & Design at Highlands College and as an alumni to London College of Fashion – where she gained her degree in Fashion Styling & Production – have allowed her to bring a fresh perspective to the team.
Since February she has been teaching a new course, Style Saturdays, at JCG, which is co-designed by herself and Di. The course offers in-depth fashion industry knowledge and is strongly underpinned by Chinese history, culture and language to create a more curated and industry-specific learning experience.
